Cape Schanck Lighthouse
On October 27th, instead of our usual meeting and guest speaker, we held an excursion to Cape Schanck Lighthouse. The day was blustery and as a picnic in the grounds had been planned for members, it was somewhat worrying as to whether the picnic would in fact take place, but we decided to risk it.
Some members stayed to listen to a very interesting talk by “The Lady of History”, Janice Haynes. As we learned at our March meeting, Janice is involved with both the Cape Schanck Lighthouse and the Cape Otway Light Station as curator and guide. She has an absolute wealth of knowledge and was able to give a very interesting talk on the Cape Schanck Lighthouse. There was also an opportunity to browse amongst the various artefacts in the museum. Some members opted to climb the lighthouse and were treated to a spectacular view and also learned some very interesting facts about the lighthouse itself.
We were very lucky in that the wind abated enough for us to enjoy a very pleasant picnic in the grounds and a big thank you goes to Prue and Chris for organising the catering.
