Hawkes Farm
Instead of our usual meeting at the St Andrews Church Hall, on 23rd March we had an outing to Hawkes Farm in Boneo. As the weather hadn’t been wonderful in the days leading up to it, there was a concern that conditions may prevent us from going to the farm, but the day turned out to be beautiful – in fact it was so hot that we had to move the outdoor furniture so that people could be in the shade!
Richard Hawkes gave a really interesting talk on the history of the Hawkes Family and the Farm. Richard is a great ambassador for Hawkes Farm and his passion for it certainly shows through. From a fairly basic shed selling potatoes in the early days to what it has become today is a credit to the Hawkes family. There are now four very interesting story boards of the farm’s history on display (example below).
As well as good facilities for the purchase of a wide variety of produce (including their renowned potatoes), they also offer coffee, snacks, etc and we partook of some of the goodies on offer and had a pleasant time sitting outside in the beautiful weather. An enjoyable afternoon was had by all.
