Our July meeting was held on another very wintery day so it was pleasing to see a good number of members in attendance. We are indeed fortunate to have members who are willing to brave the elements at this time of year to attend our monthly meetings.
We were privileged to have as our guest speaker Peter Houghton. Peter is a well-known member of the Rye community who was, until very recently, the owner of the Rye Hotel. Peter’s topic was “Once upon a time it was the heart of the Community …. my personal recollection of some of the Hotels on the Southern Mornington Peninsula”. Peter’s recollections were very interesting and informative and included not only general information, but also personal anecdotes about his life in, and involvement with, hotels. Members were very engaged and asked a number of questions which Peter was able to answer with knowledge and humour.
Peter was presented with the Society’s “Book of Memories” in appreciation.
Thank you Peter!
