Meeting – July 2023

At our monthly meeting held on 24th July we were lucky enough to have The Hon Martin Dixon as our guest speaker.  Many of our members knew Martin from his time in his many political roles.

Martin is a former Australian politician. He was a Liberal Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1996 to 2018, representing the electorates of Dromana (1996–2002) and Nepean (2002–2018). He was Minister for Education in the Baillieu and Napthine governments from 2010 to 2014.

Martin was a member of a number of Joint Parliamentary Committees, as well as holding various portfolio positions in shadow cabinet including Education and Training, Education Services, Skills and Employment, Innovation, Victorian Communities and Veterans Affairs.

Martin spoke to the gathering about life after politics which he seems to be enjoying immensely.  He is currently involved with many and varied groups that enable him to pursue a variety of causes but he still finds time to enjoy life and has even taken up boxing.  Something he never expected to do!

Martin provided a lively and entertaining talk which members enjoyed very much.  We very much appreciate that he took time out of his busy schedule to address the group.
